VIBRATO ------- The last expressive technique we need to look at is vibrato, or 'finger-tremolo'.It's an effect created by a rapid alteration and resortation of pitch. Singers use it very often to give colour to sustained notes. On the guitar it actually helps to prolong a note. At a sufficently high volume, or with a lot of distortion, vibrato will sustain a note for as long as your left hand can stand. You do it by pushing the string up and down a small distance - say a quarter of an inch - turning the left wrist rapidly back and forth. The finger does a little of the movement, but most of it comes from the wrist. Grasp the neck firmly and put your thumb over it.
